Something anyone who doles out advice should guard against
Where pride comes in
Love goes out
——————
From my point of view
I’m better than they
—————
I’m generous
I care
I express
In writing
And in words
I point out faults
They are mine too
—————-
I speak often
Of global warming
The flood and droughts
—————
I leave my tap
Open while brushing
I forget…
To close it
———-
I speak
Of the contamination
Caused
By plastic
————-
I sometimes buy stuff
In flimsy plastic bags
I forget…
To carry one
————
I speak Ill
About others
Who I think
Are doing wrong
I forget….
I sin too
————-
I’m often jealous
I crave things
I don’t have
I criticise
I’m unjust
I’m judgemental
Often wrong
————-
My secret sin
My superiority
Perceived
The scourge
Of the Pharisees
—————-
I’m not good
All the time
So why linger
On other’s faults
—————
The devil he
His footstep in
My heart
When my tongue
It wags
—————
The spiritual pride
In me
It deludes
Tells me
I’m right all the time
—————-
We live in a land
Of other religions
—————-
Beware of judging
Their customs
Their beliefs
Their gods
Their faith
For all we know
They may be
More accepting
More tolerant
More kind
Than us
With our
Spiritual pride
—————-
Lord make me humble
Shed light on my failings
Keep me grounded
Knowing
There are millions
Of ordinary people
Better than me
So I can stay
Ordinary
—————-
Where the heart is full of love and forgiveness, there is no room for pride
Corinthians 10:12 New International Version (NIV):
So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!
Romans 12:3 ESV:
For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.
